The highlights of the stage
The 124-kilometer stage, which began and ended in Saint-Christophe, saw the riders face a series of short but tough climbs.
Multiple breakaway attempts in the early stages of the race resulted in the first Sprint Catch in Saint Christophe, where Alex Baudin (Tudor Pro Cycling) prevailed over Thomas Gloag (Trinity Racing) and Lorenzo Milesi (DSM). The race's turning point, however, came on the Jeanceyaz KOM, where Karel Vacek (Tirol KTM) increased his lead over Harold Martin Lopez (Astana).
At the KOM, the two pass in this order, followed by Ollie Rees (Trinity Racing). The group behind them crumbles, with yellow jersey Hollyman clearly in trouble and a surging Lorenzo Germani (Groupama FDJ). The defending Italian national champion U23 quickly jumped to the front of the race and launched an attack on the Grand Pollein climb near Nus. Germani is first at the summit, followed by Vacek and Araya Hahom (Qhubeka). Germani, who is more comfortable on the descent and on the flat than the chasers, takes advantage of the generous Vacek and leads the final kilometers to Saint Christophe alone. Germani then wins over Karel Vacek, with Marco Frigo finishing third (Israel).
Lenny Martinez (Groupama FDJ) used the GC leader Mason Hollyman's (Israel) crisis to his advantage and wore the Eaux Valdotaines yellow jersey. Reuben Thompson and Simone Raccani were 25 seconds ahead of him (Italian National Team). Hollyman, the former yellow jersey holder, drops to 20th place. Lenny Martinez also wears the white Valle d'Aosta points jersey, while Enzo Paleni wears the Sprint Catch Haute Savoie jersey (Groupama FDJ). Czech Karel Vacek is the best climber wearing the CVA Energie polka-dot jersey (Tirol KTM) after this stage.

Tourist info
Just 3 km far from Aosta, in a wide hilly area among orchards and vineyards, on the left orographic side of the Dora Baltea river, Saint-Christophe enjoys a particularly sunny position in all seasons of the year.
